OVERVIEW

Meath County Council appointed Integrated Utility Services to carry out civils works, installing new traffic calming. This busy location is adjacent to the Ratoath ‘pitch ‘n’ putt’ golf club, Ratoath Harps soccer club, Ratoath GAA club and a gentleman’s shed facility. There was a requirement for signalled traffic calming measures, which IUS have provided, resulting in a higher degree of road safety.

DESCRIPTION

This scheme involved the provision of civil works for a new controlled pedestrian crossing with a raised crossing platform. Drainage and ducting works for new traffic lights and ESB Networks had to be installed. This involved carrying out an open-cut road crossing, the provision of concrete bases for control cabinets, and mini pillars. Three manholes and four gullies were installed to divert storm water into an existing drain. Existing footpaths were upgraded, and 40m of new paths were installed. Two round top speed ramps were also installed to prevent speeding as vehicles approached the pedestrian crossing. Advanced traffic signage and road markings were supplied and installed.

"Integrated Utility Services delivered an excellent standard of work on the traffic calming project in Ratoath. Given the location’s high footfall, adjacent to several busy community facilities, it was essential that the works were completed efficiently and to the highest safety standards. IUS provided signalled traffic calming measures that have significantly improved road safety in the area. Their professionalism, clear communication, and ability to manage works in a live environment were key to the project’s success."
