IUS Storm Darragh
Major Incident Response: Storm Darragh

As Storm Darragh swept across the region at the weekend with winds of up to 75mph, the IUS Overhead Line (OHL) Team was on the frontlines, stepping up to support Northern Powergrid in their response. 🌲⚡

Deployment Highlights:

Saturday (7 Dec): We rallied to areas around Durham and Darlington, tackling damage caused by storm conditions and fallen trees. Thousands of Northern Powergrid customers had their supplies restored through our teams who worked hard into the early hours.

Sunday (8 Dec): Teams were redeployed to the harder-hit North Yorkshire region, addressing multiple LV and HV pole faults and worked into the night.

Monday-Wednesday: From Kirkbymoorside to Scarborough, our teams safely worked around the clock to help restore supplies for customers.

A big Thank You to our dedicated OHL team...

💬Ben Stokoe, Head of Operations: “Thank you and well done to everyone in the OHL team, both direct and subcontract. Your hard work and dedication in these extremely difficult circumstances are truly appreciated.”

💬Reece Johnstone, OHL Operations Manager: “The overhead linesmen, plant operatives, and back-office staff have demonstrated exceptional dedication. Your efforts are what make restoring supplies to affected customers possible. Well done to everyone involved!”

Major Incident Response: Storm Bert

Integrated Utility Services Overhead Lines Teams supported Northern Powergrid with the response and restoration of overhead lines which were down due to Storm Bert this weekend.

Mathew Preston, General Manager – Northumberland, County Durham, Tyne and Wear, Northern Powergrid, said:

"I would like to pass my thanks onto IUS for their support throughout Storm Bert. Since the onset of the storm on Saturday morning, all supplies were restored by 02:30am the following day – a tremendous effort in difficult driving and working conditions."

Storm Bert brought heavy snow, fierce winds and rainy conditions to our region over the weekend, hitting Northumberland, County Durham and Tyne & Wear the hardest. Despite these extreme conditions, the commitment and teamwork of Northern Powergrid assisted by Integrated Utility Services Limited ensured they could continue supporting customers when they needed them most.

Over 30,000 customers experienced power outages during the storm. By working as a team, Northern Powergrid successfully restored power to all customers quickly and safely.
