OVERVIEW

Skerries Mills is a heritage centre, and a popular tourist attraction. As part of the overall upgrade of Skerries Mills and the surrounding parks, undertaken by Fingal County Council, IUS was contracted to design, manufacture and install a pedestrian bridge over the brook.

This also included installing new tar paths to link up the various access points to the Mills and up grading the existing car park. The scope of works also included duct installation for ESB and the supply and installation of lighting bollards.

DESCRIPTION

The project involved the design, manufacture, and installation of a pedestrian bridge and handrails. ESB and public lighting ducts were run through the bridge sections to replace the existing overhead line network with underground cables. This required the installation of a new ESB mini substation in the car park, for which IUS installed the sub-base.

New public lighting ducts and pots had to be installed along with additional ducting for CCTV cables to facilitate future improvements. All new road layout signage and markings were supplied and installed by IUS.

This project also included the redesign and improvement of the existing car park. This required the planting of 8 trees using the Strata Cell Urban Tree planting technology. The plaza surface had to be tarred with a buff resin-bonded gravel overlay, edged with granite cobble setts.
