Position Overview
IUS is currently in search of a talented and motivated Electrical Bid Manager with experience in HV and EHV Power Distribution across all sectors. Reporting to the Head of Commercial the role will be to seek and lead major project bidding activity.
The primary responsibility of this role is to identify, lead and manage the development of accurate and timely major project estimates and submit competitive bids and operational delivery proposals for our client-base. Be the main interface for major project bidding activity
Key Responsibilities
- Determine and price value-engineered alternatives to plans and specifications in order to demonstrate to clients’ commitment to value engineering.
- Enhance current major projects tendering process to improve company’s ability to win work
- Hold and contribute towards pre and post tender bid meetings with clients and their representatives in pursuit of securing work.
- Grow the capacity of the supply chain to diversify IUS’ capability for delivery of complex solutions and to achieve best value
- Demonstrate excellent negotiation skills in order to negotiate and conclude securing of opportunities for the supply of works, goods, materials and services.
- Ensure appropriate chasing down to understand the status of bids post submission, until opportunity is closed.
- Aid the analysis of commercial terms with the context of the intended scope to ensure contractual obligations are transferred into delivery
- Ensure contractual requirements are reflected into estimates and marked for attention as part of handover process with operational team.
- Formulate early view of intended delivery team and work alongside to upskill the understanding of submissions with plans and programmes flowing through to delivery and avoiding a transactional handover. This is to ensure the business is “fit for construction
- Assist the Tender & Estimating team to meet the financial targets so the business can achieve growth targets.
- Forward planning to ensure tender timescales are met
- Develop and maintain effective key client relationships, in the pursuit of securing major projects work.
- Act in a manner that promotes best practice in relation to safety performance.
- Ensure Major Projects Experience in the utility construction industry with a complete understanding of gas, water and electric distribution infrastructures. Experienced with scheme finance and commercial management.
- Ensure cash management is a consideration when sanctioning bidding opportunities.
- Create hand over culture aimed at ensuring operational delivery can successfully delivery the project.
- Talent profile of all resources maintained, with high growth potential assessed and actively managed.

Essential qualifications & attributes
- Knowledge of Low Voltage and High Voltage (HV & EHV) distribution networks and protection systems
- HNC (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering
- Experience in the utility and construction industries with an understanding of utilities distribution infrastructures.
- Experience managing a team
- Knowledge of Contract Law, Health & Safety awareness and CDM Regulations
- Commercial awareness
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable qualification & attributes
- Chartered Engineer status
- Experience in civil engineering

Persimmon Homes Multi Utility Install: Laneside Farm Phase 1
Persimmon Homes engaged IUS to deliver Multi Utility installations for a 450-plot housing development in Morley, Leeds, including gas, water, and electrical connections, as well as the construction of two HV substations.
Major Incident Response: Storm Eowyn
Outstanding Team Effort by Integrated Utility Services (IUS) Overhead Line teams and contractors, who worked in partnership with Northern Powergrid’s teams to tackle damage caused by Storm Eowyn - the sixth storm in just three months.

Portakabin
Johnathan Ridsdale from Portakabin has sent IUS positive feedback. "Many thanks for the excellent emergency response and work carried out on our High Voltage cable fault. Special thanks for going above and beyond in urgently attending the site, making it safe, and staying with us to find the fault. Thank you for putting plans in place to bring plant and a workforce to the site, in order to excavate the cable and restore power."
Nissan
Nissan utilise IUS for both substation construction and maintenance at their car manufacturing plant in Sunderland. Ian McClelland, a Nissan Electrical Engineer, has thanked the IUS team for all of the support provided to assist the operation of their plant, which is critical to production.
University of Leeds
IUS design, procure and construct contestable connections including at the University of Leeds. Simon Gough, Head of Engineering Services sent his appreciation to IUS for the assistance with a Northern Powergrid 33kV connection application, associated with a new primary substation.
ESP Utilities Group
ESP Utilities Group are an Independent Distribution Network Operator and IUS deliver contestable connections to their adoptable standards. Following a recent connection, Adrian White an Operations Engineer at ESP commented, “May I congratulate you all for the build and care taken at the substation, very well done.”
Persimmon Homes
Persimmon Homes thanked the IUS Multi Utility team for their good performance in recent months and on the Garforth and Skelmanthorpe schemes in particular. These are challenging developments and Samuel Sowery the Technical Director recognised that, “IUS have gone above and beyond to complete the works.”
WGM Engineering
WGM have recognised an outstanding level of service provided by IUS at Dalmarnock Wastewater Treatment Works. Scott Gallagher, a WGM Senior Contracts Manager, paid tribute to the performance of the IUS team, stating “I was delighted with the professionalism, flexibility and technical expertise, when assisting WGM in restoring essential supplies to the site.”
CMDP
CMDP engaged with IUS to deliver the power to a new Water Treatment Works for Southern Water at Burham Water. Following a shutdown, Neil Cuthbert of CDMP commented, "Sounds like an amazing effort by all to achieve this milestone, which will provide the site resilience. Just goes to show what can be done by a great team of committed professionals."
BELCO
IUS has delivered a number of prestigious projects for BELCO in Bermuda, including the 22kV substations and 4kV substations associated with the new International Airport. The client’s representative, Jonathan Pedro praised IUS for delivering the project on time and to budget, with no health and safety related incidents.
Northern Powergrid
IUS delivers a number of frameworks for Northern Powergrid including secondary SCADA. The Norther Powergrid Delivery Engineer, Jamie Braithwaite said, "I've found the IUS team to be professional, customer focused & ready to help support the SCADA project at all times. They manage their teams and the wider IUS resources very well. I look forward to continuing to work with the team into ED2. Great job!"
